Being Thankful When You Feeling Anything But

Nov 18, 2020 0 comments

Happy Wednesday!

It is November and I took a brief break from blogging life because I was stressed. Stressed about the election. It's my busiest time of year at work. Plus, I'm building a new business. Overwhelmed doesn't seem like an adequate word.

But I missed talking with you and I know that if I was overwhelmed the last few months, I'm sure you have been too.

Boy, it has been a tough time to be thankful; to feel grateful; to feel blessed.

Now that I have found time to reflect, gather my thoughts, and type I've begun to recognize how blessed I have been this year. November is always the time that I do this but I think in 2020, this period of reflection has become much more important.

My family and I live with my parents for 5 years and for mosr of that times I didn't see the blessing in that until we had to be quarantined. Many have been without seeing their parents/grandparents face to face for the entire year. In close knit families that is especially difficult. My kids have had the ability to be with their Granny and PeePaw the entirety of this work from home quarantine saga and I am so grateful for that.

They have bombed many of my mother's and I's video conference calls and have become, as my boss likes to say, "his favorite little co-workers". Lol.

I'm blessed that my family members have stayed healthy thus far. I'm thankful that my kids have still been able to be kids inspite of all that is going on with this virus. I'm grateful that I get to be home with my kids; when they were babies I had so much mom guilt for going back to work and this has given me some of that time back.

I'm grateful for home delivery. Even before quarantine I was ordering almost everything, including groceries and I am just grateful it was an option during this time. It was dicey at first but has been a definite blessing.

I've learned during this season that having an sttitude of gratitude is a choice. Focusing on the blessing is paramount and absolutely necessary to get you though the struggle that a year like 2020 has been.

It's not easy by any stretch of the imagination. Especially if you a pessimistic personality like I am, focusing on the positive is not your default mechanism.

So homework: I invite you to look back on this year and write down what you are grateful for. It could be that your WFH space has a window that lets the sun shine in. It could be you are grateful you didn't have to wear anything but pajama bottoms for 3/4s of the year. It could be that you get to see the smiling faces of your kids everyday. Or even being thankful for your neighborhood delivery driver.

Whatever it is, focus on those things and it will make a work of difference in your life.
